Brent Allen: Tunes

Day Job

(Brent Allen)
2007-11-27
Brent Allen and Stephen Doster
I wrote this song while sitting behind a desk in a cubicle over at Dell Computer as production on the album was ramping up. I would literally be busting out of there to head downtown to network and do musical things after I left work.
Verse 1:
Well, me and the boys were down the road
Playing to just a few.
We were having fun
Next thing I know
It's almost half past two.
Then I had to drive
to get up at five
to catch a wink or two.
The alarm went off
as I laid down,
man, I don't know what to do. (cause)

Chorus:
This Day Job
is messin' with my night job.
I need to get some sleep, but man I don't know when,
Cause there's a lot of life to live, and somethin's gotta give.
But I'll enjoy the ride until then.

Verse 2:
Well, now it feels like time is standing still,
but the coffee's kickin' in.
Now the boss is mad,
I swear it's like some days you just can't win.
And he said, son, this havin' fun is just a shame and a sin.
But we're playing out at the bar tonight,
and the party starts again.

(cause)
This Day Job
is messin' with my night job.
I need to get some sleep, but man I don't know when,
Cause there's a lot of life to live, and somethin's gotta give.
But I'll enjoy the ride until then.

Whoa, this Day Job
is messin' with my night job.
I need to get some sleep, but man I don't know when,
Well, here I go again,
burning candles at both ends. But I'll enjoy the ride my friends.

Yeah, I'll enjoy the ride my friends.
